Herpes Simplex Infection
● Cause
• Caused by infection with the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1 or HSV-2).
• HSV-1 typically affects the lips and face, while HSV-2 is more common in the genital area.
● Symptom
• Small clusters of fluid-filled blisters appear on the lips, face, or genital area, accompanied by pain, itching, or burning.
• After the first infection, the virus remains dormant in nerve cells and can reactivate during stress, fatigue, fever, or sun exposure.
● Diagnosis
• Usually diagnosed based on typical clinical appearance.
• Laboratory tests such as viral culture or PCR may be performed if needed.
● Treatment
• Antiviral medication (oral or topical) should be started as early as possible after symptom onset to shorten duration and reduce recurrence.
