Atopic Dermatitis
● Atopic Dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, recurring form of eczema caused by a combination of genetic allergy tendency and weakened skin barrier function.
It often begins in childhood but can continue or recur in adulthood.
● Diagnosis
• Persistent eczema accompanied by chronic itching.
• Characteristic distribution on areas such as the face, neck, inner elbows, and backs of knees.
• Consideration of family history and other allergic conditions such as asthma or hay fever.
● Treatment Approach
• Daily skincare with adequate moisturizing to strengthen the skin barrier.
• Use of topical steroids, tacrolimus ointment, or JAK inhibitors to suppress inflammation.
• Oral medication to relieve persistent itching.
• Phototherapy using the Flexis Fit excimer lamp, or biologic injection therapy (such as Dupixent) for severe or resistant cases.
