Viral Warts (HPV Infection)
● Symptoms
Viral warts are benign skin growths caused by infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV).
Common characteristics include:
• Small, firm bumps on the hands or feet
• A rough, white, or thickened surface due to keratin buildup
• On the soles, they may resemble corns or calluses, making them difficult to distinguish
• Usually painless, but may cause discomfort or pain when walking or under pressure

● Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made through visual examination of the skin and differentiation from corns or calluses.
A dermoscope (special magnifying instrument) may be used to check for tiny pinpoint bleeding, which is characteristic of warts.

● Treatment
Although viral warts can occasionally resolve on their own, spontaneous recovery may take several months to years.
Because they can spread or multiply, early treatment is recommended.
• Cryotherapy (Liquid Nitrogen Freezing Treatment)
The most common method, which destroys wart tissue by freezing with liquid nitrogen.
Multiple sessions are usually required.
• Topical Treatment
Ointments containing salicylic acid may be used to soften the keratin and promote healing.
• Other Options (for Resistant Cases)
For persistent warts, laser removal or oral herbal medicine (Yokuinin extract) may be combined for enhanced effect.

● Daily Care Advice
• Avoid touching, scratching, or attempting to cut warts yourself.
• Do not share towels, nail clippers, or other personal items to prevent spreading the virus to others.
• Be cautious in communal areas such as pools, gyms, or public baths, where plantar warts can easily spread.
